The richest grade of copper ore is native copper, which is pure copper (). Many metallic ores occur as sulfide minerals. Examples of sulfide minerals are galena (lead sulfide, PbS), sphalerite (zinc sulfide, ZnS), covellite (copper sulfide, CuS), or pyrite (iron sufide, FeS2).
